Frank Miller’s “The Spirit”, was visually stunning, however, it was quite mundane. Character development was almost nill and the plot very predictable. Very basic thematic Elements also let down the movie. Gabriel Macht (THE SPIRIT) was clearly over-acting, and his voice did not sound natural. The Pace of the movie was even, it was not fast nor slow, the reduced my attention. His character THE SPIRIT was a brilliant piece of animation. The Blood red tie around his neck and the bleach white soles of his shoes stood out of the filmed scene clearly displaying the imagery of the writers.
Much like Frank Miller’s previous movies “Sin City” and “300″, “The Spirit” was also a mix of film and animation, mixed almost seamlessly. This gave the director the ability to put people in extreme situations or move the camera in such a way that was previously impossible.
“Setting the scene” located at the Australian Center for the Moving Image, at federation square, was a disappointment. Although there was a interest inspiring display of “The Matrix”, the rest was lacking somewhat.
It Offered insight into the world of movies and the scene’s they set but just like “The Spirit” did not hold my attention. Some of the displays did not offer enough information to even understand what it was about.
The trip to the city offered insight and was an enjoyable learning experiance, however its ability to hold my attention was somewhat lacking.
